Last Sunday my boyfriend and I drove all the way to Emporia to pick up our newest member, a 10 year old blue crowned conure . She is not really use to being handled yet since she was a breeder for most of her life but she is really not that wild. She is hand shy and I cannot handle her yet but she is starting to respond. I bet in a few months she will be just as sweet as the rest of my flock. We decided to call her Touka.
The former owner said she talks but touka has not shared her vocab with us yet. Just lots of screaming after I didn't put a peanut in her dish. Part of her initial training is to get her to accept her favorite snack (unsalted peanuts) from my hand. She doesn't get any until she takes it from the hand or maybe a notched stick to start with. I have my work cut out for me but hey I have 40 years to accomplish it. The bird is only 10
